I can help by allowing you to be yourself and to relax in a confidential environment. You can explore issues at your own pace without fear of shame or judgement, and many experience increased self-acceptance and awareness as a result. My aim is to help you explore what can be difficult and painful issues, providing support every step of the way, should you choose counselling as part of your recovery process.
Counselling is a relationship which is built up, over a period of time and is a worthwhile investment in your wellbeing. There is no quick fix – indeed it would be wrong to expect one. However, if you are willing to give yourself the priority you deserve by coming for counselling, this will pay dividends. I understand the importance of simply listening to people who feel that no-one else is listening or understands their needs.
I am an integrative practitioner, with Person Centred Counselling as my core model and integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and also Internal Family Systems (IFS). Working in this way, I am able to offer a flexible approach, to suit the needs of individual clients. For example, I would naturally work in a person-centred manner, responding to what the client brings and exploring issues accordingly. However, this approach does not suit everyone, and I aim to match my working style to a client’s particular needs wherever possible.
My starting point will always focus upon you and where you are at on your particular journey. It is important to remember that the path of counselling can be a hazardous one (in terms of your emotions), but I am here to provide support every step of the way. Try asking yourself whether you can realistically afford to carry on just as you are, or whether you could see yourself making a change and taking and some time out for yourself?
Each session takes place in my private counselling room which is a safe, private and confidential environment.
