Hope for Carers is a self-help group providing support and encouragement to parents and carers of young people with mental health needs. It is a safe and welcoming environment and I am so pleased to support the work they are doing.
I will be giving a presentation called Understanding Stress (as it relates to parenting/caring for a young person who is coping with mental health issues). It will be a personal perspective, having direct ongoing experience of raising a child who has Higher Functioning Autism (Asperger’s).
When it comes to parenting/caring for your own child, you yourself are the real expert. My presentation will acknowledge that fact, and will demonstrate how talking and sharing can help. Admittedly, talking alone will not directly change your situation, but may provide hope, and an ear to hear – which is what this event is all about.
Details of the next meeting are:
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on 26 September 2017
